Of course, meeting with a Greek wine is not like meeting Aphrodite. But, if you’ll excuse me, this picture, this masterpiece of winemaking is certainly the work of someone’s hand! Here I’m talking about a work of art, if not of Picasso, then the winemaker of Kokkinos. What is his name? I really don’t know, nor do I particularly want to, so let him remain a mysterious artist for me. Well, like, anything can happen. I do not want to be disappointed in him, or his charming art. The painting of Kokkinos 2012 by the name of Xinomavro is amazing and somehow remarkably organized for today’s chaotic times.

The world of wine is a unique one, and we thank the Kokkinos company for this one. A special tone to what’s happening here is set by the fact that the vineyards are located in an area that’s officially called the «heroic city of Kokkinos,» where Aristotle lived and worked, and where young Alexander of Macedonia studied. In fact, it’s accepted to speak about Greece in superlatives exclusively. And there are many reasons for this, but when such a budget wine, by market standards, starts to get playful—this is a special experience. And if you’re in Greece, this wine is sure to not disappoint!

In fact, this wine does after all have the same character of Aphrodite. An interesting, velvety taste and distinctive style. Oh, what a style! Soft and pleasant for drinking with a nice bitter note, probably thanks to Aphrodite’s own haughtiness!

But we also get an interesting sweetness when it starts to unfold. Bring in the cheese!
